Join us for Midwest Convention 2023 at Camp Nageela Midwest for a long weekend retreat including a Shabbat experience, just like camp! Midwest Young Judaea is so excited to see you at this weekend of fun, friends, and learning. The weekend will include time for friends, opportunities to meet new people, and programs led by the Midwest Mazkirut (teen board) to strengthen your Jewish identity and connection to Israel. There will also be Asepha, where you will get to vote on your next Midwest Mazkirut.

Travel Information
ARRIVAL GUIDELINES FOR THURSDAY, MARCH 2ND, 2023
There are THREE options for arrival to Midwest Convention:
- FLYING
All flights for convention should arrive to the O’Hare International Airport (ORD) on Thursday, March 2nd between 2:30PM-5:00PM CST. Bus provided to Camp Nageela Midwest.
- DROP OFF AT CAMP NAGEELA MIDWEST
Participants should be dropped off at 26710 W. NIPPERSINK ROAD INGLESIDE, IL 60041 between 6:30PM-7:30PM CST. To ensure the safety of our participants, while parents are welcomed to drive participants to/from convention, participants are strongly discouraged from driving to/from convention themselves. If this is necessary, please contact the office at yjconvention@youngjudaea.org to request special permission.
- BUS TO CAMP NAGEELA MIDWEST FOR LOCAL TEENS
Participants that live locally are welcome to take the bus from O’Hare International Airport or Northbrook Court, free of charge.
- Bus from O’Hare International Airport: Please arrive by 5:00PM CST.
- Bus from Northbrook Court – 1515 Lake Cook Rd: Please arrive by 6:00PM CST (bus scheduled to depart at 6:15PM). Exact pickup location will be at the corner between the AMC theater and Arhaus entrance, a map will be sent to all participants that choose this option.
DEPARTURE GUIDELINES FOR SUNDAY, MARCH 5TH, 2023.
There are three options for departure from Midwest Convention:
- FLYING
All flights for convention should depart from the O’Hare International Airport (ORD) on Friday, March 5th between 1:30PM-4:00PM CST. Bus provided from Camp Nageela Midwest.
- PICK UP FROM CAMP NAGEELA MIDWEST
Participants should be picked up at Camp Nageela Midwest 26710 W. NIPPERSINK ROAD INGLESIDE, IL 60041 between 9:00AM-10:00AM CST.
- BUS FROM CAMP NAGEELA MIDWEST FOR LOCAL TEENS
Participants that live locally are welcome to take the bus from Camp Nageela Midwest to O’Hare International Airport or Northbrook Court, free of charge.
- Bus to Northbrook Court- 1515 Lake Cook Rd: Participants will be dropped off at approximately 10:45AM CST. Exact pickup location will be at the corner between the AMC theater and Arhaus entrance, a map will be sent to all participants that choose this option.
- Bus to O’Hare International Airport: Participants will be dropped off at approximately 11:15AM CST.
I can’t find flights that arrive within the times listed. Can I book something else?

Can I drive myself to convention?
To ensure the safety of our participants, while parents are welcomed to drive participants to/from convention, participants are strongly discouraged from driving to/from convention themselves. If this is necessary, please contact the office at yjconvention@youngjudaea.org to request special permission.
COVID-19 Policy
We are taking all possible precautions to ensure the health and safety of our participants. All participants must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as defined by the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP)*. This includes two doses of the vaccine and one booster dose. Participants must also submit proof of a negative rapid test administered within 24 hours of the program (at-home tests accepted).
* The only attendees exempt from this policy will be those with proof of a medical reason why they cannot receive the vaccine, pending approval from our Medical Committee
If a participant develops COVID-19 symptoms during convention we will administer a rapid test. If a participant tests positive during convention we will isolate them until the participant and parent/guardian have made immediate arrangements at their own expense.
Scholarship
We are committed to ensuring that every teen interested in attending convention is able to go and will do our best to accommodate. Funds are made available from the leadership teens raising money locally and nationally and are limited.
Please submit this SCHOLARSHIP REQUEST FORM to receive subsidy towards convention.
The deadline to request scholarship is February 5th, 2023. We will review submissions at that time and respond ASAP. The deadline to register upon hearing back from us is February 12th, 2023. Priority will go to participants purchasing flights.
Cancellation Policy
If you cancel your participation before February 12th, 2023 you will be eligible for a refund of the total program fee. If you cancel before February 19th, 2023 you will be eligible for a 50% refund of the total program fee. After February 19th, 2023 no refunds will be available. Regardless of when you cancel, if cancellation occurs after you have purchased an airline ticket, you will be responsible for the full price of the airline ticket. No refunds will be given for participants who are dismissed and/or otherwise removed from or leave Midwest Convention for any reason (voluntary or involuntary) once the program has commenced. Young Judaea reserves the right to cancel Midwest Convention, or change any of the itineraries due to low enrollment, security or other reasons as determined by Young Judaea’s sole and absolute discretion. Program prices are subject to change in Young Judaea’s sole and absolute discretion.
Note: All flight expenses are the responsibility of the participant.
FAQ
Who is eligible to come to Midwest Convention?
All 8th-12th graders are invited to attend Midwest Convention 2023 regardless of their past Young Judaea experience.
What happens at Midwest Convention?
Midwest Convention is an annual gathering of Young Judaea’s participants, members, leaders and friends to observe Shabbat together and learn about issues relevant to Judaism, Israel, Pluralism and Zionism. High quality programming will be offered to all Jewish teens, regardless of their current or previous levels of involvement in Young Judaea. Participants will have the opportunity to elect their peers to the 2023-2024 Midwest Mazkirut, our teen governing leadership board.
When is the registration deadline and what must be submitted?
Deadline to register is February 12th, 2023

- Registering participants dietary restrictions, insurance information (including a copy of insurance card), and an emergency contact
- Proof of COVID-19 Vaccination (upload vaccination card)
Is scholarship available?

We will send an information guide to all participants and their parent/guardian via e-mail the week leading up to convention. It will contain the following:

- Precise airport arrival and departure instructions
- Instructions for Parent drop off at the O’Hare International Airport, bus pick up locations and pick up/drop off procedures at Camp Nageela Midwest
- An itinerary for the convention
