Starting Young Judaea in your Community

So you’re thinking about organizing a Young Judaea event in your community?

As a grassroots movement, Young Judaea relies on enthusiasm and support from youth leaders, alumni, parents, and volunteers. We are happy to help you with the planning of the event. Our Year Round program staff can provide educational resources, logistical support and direction. To ensure the safety of Young Judaea participants, all local and regional community events and activities associated with Young Judaea must be approved, based on the information on the form (link below). This form must be completed at least one month prior to your event.

Requests for overnight programs and events of a more complicated nature should be submitted at least three months in advance. Overnights and retreats must have a ratio of one staff for every ten participants.

Activities and events that are limited to a couple of hours in length may have a ratio of one staff for every fifteen participants. At least one of the adults must be over the age of 21.


Before final approval of the program, a phone call will be organized between this adult, someone from the Young Judaea American Programs staff and the youth leader or mazkirut member organizing the event.

All madrichim/staff should be over the age of 18.

All activities and events must be financially self-sustaining. Funding can come from tuition fees, grants or donations. There are limited monies available from the YJ budget to subsidize local activities/events and “seed” money available. Monies can be held and managed locally if done in coordination with the Year Round programs staff. However, there is the option of depositing money into YJ’s account so we can help coordinate expenses.

In addition, Young Judaea will coordinate any contracts or agreements necessary and provide insurance information. All Young Judaea activities and events must fall within one or more of the following content categories:

  • Zionism and Israel education, engagement, and/or advocacy
  • Jewish Identity, Ritual and/or Pluralism
  • Tikun Olam (Social and Political Activism)
  • Leadership Development
  • Social/Recreational


You will have our staff and shlichim available to help you with logistics and programming if your event is approved. We will coordinate meetings with the individual who can help you the most. Signed release forms MUST be obtained from all participants. These forms will be sent with your letter of approval.

All publicity must be submitted for review to The organizer will be asked to submit a short paragraph and photos for posting on the Young Judaea Website and for email blasts etc.
