Tikkum Olam: India

Young Judaea has always taken Tikkun Olam as an important value and are now expanding our help to India. For two weeks we are working with the Gabriel Project Mumbai, a Jewish organization in the slums of Mumbai. Participants will have sessions in global poverty, Jewish perspectives of development, international development theory, Indian culture, spoken Hindi classes and connect with the Jewish community all the while spending 5 full days of teaching the children in the slums English. Participants will be exposed to GPMs work in healthcare, education, women’s empowerment projects, nutrition, safe drinking water facilities and other development initiatives run by GPM.

Participants will also have the opportunity to explore and connect with the Jewish communities within Mumbai as well as visit many of the iconic sites including Banganga tank, ISKON Temple, the Gandhi Museum, and more! This trip will offer the opportunity for participants to give back to a less fortunate community while immersing themselves in the beautiful Indian culture.
