Who is eligible to come to NMW?
All Jewish teens, grades 9-12, who are active or interested in being leaders in Young Judaea (within their communities and/or Young Judaea programs).
What happens at NMW?
Every year, scores of Jewish teen leaders gather to observe Shabbat together and take part in a program focusing on Zionism, Pluralism, Tikkun Olam and tangible leadership skills.
We will be building upon the education in Year Round Programming, Camp Tel Yehudah, and Israel Summer Programs to develop actionable steps for the movement leadership to continue throughout the rest of the year. Convention participants will leave convention with a clear challenge of really thinking why they believe in Israel and how they can pass on that passion to create a more complete world in their communities and in Young Judaea.
How much does NMW cost?
The Early Bird discounted convention fee is $285 plus travel. After December 15th, the fee is $345 plus travel.
How do I register?
Registration is now done entirely online, in order for participants to register just click here!
Are scholarships available?
Yes, though our scholarship funds are VERY limited. We are offering two types of subsidies for our National Midwinter Program: Travel Subsidies and Tuition Subsidies.
Travel Subsidies are for those whose flights cost in excess of $400; if that is the case we are offering up to $100 in an attempt to equalize the travel costs. For example, if your flight costs $465, you will receive $65 dollars in Travel Subsidy. To receive a Travel Subsidy, you must email yjconvention@youngjudaea.org with participant name, parent name, contact phone number and a digital copy of the flight information (with price included). All equalization checks will be sent within 45 days following NMW.
Tuition Subsidies are for those who need assitance in paying the registration fees for the convention itself. These subsidies will be determined by the Year Round Programs staff and are submitted through an application process. Please download and return this form in order to apply for Tutition Subsidy. *deadline for submission is the end of early bird registration period (Dec. 15th), please submit your Tuition Subsidy application by then.
What are the travel guidelines if I am flying to and from Convention?
All participants flying to and from Convention must arrive to Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) on Friday, February 17, 2011 by 2:00pm.
A space on the bus from the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) to hotel will automatically be reserved for you.
Participants will be responsible for retrieving their baggage on their own and meeting the Young Judaea staff and participants at a specific location at Baggage Claim. From there, a bus will take all participants to the hotel.
Flights must depart from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) on Monday, February 20, 2011 after 1:00pm.
Please make sure to fill out the additional travel form with your flight information at: www.youngjudaea.org/nmwtravel.
I can only find flights that arrive after or depart before/after the times you listed. Can I still take them?
Unfortunately we cannot offer that much leeway on this, the NMW schedule is precise and our time is extremely limited. Flights must arrive at the perscribed times. We simply will not have drivers and vehicles to cater to those who travel outside of the parameters listed. Additionally, if a participant tries to book a flight that departs before 2 PM on February 20th, they will run the risk of not making his/her flight.
What should I do if I am flying as an unaccompanied minor to Convention? Will there be someone to pick me up?
Please make sure to check with your airline provider what their specific rules and regulations are for flying as an unaccompanied minor. Each airline has a different procedure and some charge fees for this service. Once you check these rules with your airline, please contact us at yjconvention@youngjudaea.org so we can provide you with the information needed for the airline of our staff member who will be escorting you from the gate to baggage claim. To be considered an unaccompanied minor, your airline must have on record our staff member’s information.
What are the travel guidelines if I am taking driving to and from Convention?
Participants are NOT PERMITTED to drive themselves to convention. This is contrary to Young Judaea policy and anyone driving to convention must be dropped off and picked up by a parent or guardian.
If you live locally, we are providing a bus from Houston to and from convention which can help alleviate some of the travel time for individual parent/guardians. For more information on the bus from Houston please click here.
What are the travel guidelines if I would like my parents/guardians to drop me off and pick me up at CJY Texas?
Participants may be dropped off and picked up at CYJ Texas by their parents/guardians. If you are being driven to Convention, please plan to arrive at 3pm on Friday, February 17th. If you are bring picked up at Convention on Monday, February 20th, please plan to depart at 10am. To ensure the safety of our participants, while parents are welcomed to drive participants to/from convention, participants are NOT allowed to drive to/from Convention themselves.
Can I drive myself to NMW?
