The Young Judaea MODEL Fellowsihp Pilot

Mentorship for Optimal Development of Education and Leadership

Activism and leadership among Jewish teens is needed today more than ever; there is a critical need and opportunity for post-high school activists and educators to step forward to lead the way. The Young Judaea MODEL Fellowship is a year-long program that will:

  • Train a cohort of 6-8 Jewish collegiate student leaders to teach the next generation of Jewish social activists, currently serving on regional Young Judaea teen boards
  • Provide these leaders with the opportunity to create exciting new projects within their own communities that will explore meaningful Zionist, Pluralist ideas and issues
  • Work with Young Judaea teen leaders to develop year-round programs (including summer) that will attract, educate and inspire teens across the Jewish spectrum

Goals for MODEL Fellowship Pilot:

  • To create meaningful relationships between college-aged and high school leaders
  • To produce impactful Jewish programming around the country
  • To develop and enrich leading college-aged Jewish leaders and activists

Main Fellowship Gatherings:

  • Day Orientation: June
  • 2 Month Summer Training: June-August
  • 3 Day Mid-Year Retreat: Presidents’ Day Weekend

Who is Part of the MODEL Fellowship?

The Fellow: will be an energetic and highly motivated post-high school aged Jewish activist who is highly committed to Zionism, Pluralism, social activism and leadership development.
MODEL Fellows will be expected to attend all Fellowship programs. They are also expected to spend 1.5 - 2 hours per week (54-72 hours in total) from September to May:

  • Working with and assisting their regional board members directly
  • Creating educational (online or in person) programs for their teens
  • Communicating with the Young Judaea Director of Youth Leadership on a weekly basis
  • From June to August, the MODEL Fellows will work as full time members of the Camp Tel Yehudah Staff.
  • While at Tel Yehudah, MODEL Fellows will also take part in semi-weekly educational activities to be created and conducted by Young Judaea’s education department

The Regional Young Judaea Teen Board: a group of 5-10 peer-elected leaders of Young Judaea committed to carrying out Young Judaea’s vision in their area of the country

The Fellowship Supervisor: Young Judaea’s Director of Youth Leadership will supervise the fellows from September to May. During the summer the Assistant Director of Camp Tel Yehudah, the national senior leadership camp of Young Judaea will also supervise the Fellows, along with the Director of Youth Leadership.
