Shalem
The Shalem Israel ExperienceYoung Judaea is proud to offer Tochnit Shalem, a multi-faceted, shana ba’aretz that teaches Orthodox high school graduates the importance of Torat Yisrael, Am Yisrael and Medinat Yisrael. As they make Israel their home, Shalem students benefit from Torah study in combination with the values of ahavat Yisrael and gemilut chasadim. They strive to achieve a deeper understanding of their roles as committed Jews within the larger Jewish community and in modern society. While reinforcing the students’ observance and strengthening their spirituality, Shalem fosters personal development by providing the students with the tools necessary to bolster their own identities in the vast Jewish religious world. Nothing has the power to put a lifetime of Jewish education into context like a long-term Israel program. Tochnit Shalem enables students to connect their family upbringing and school education with their personal goals in life. In Hebrew, “Shalem” is an acronym for “Shenat L’immud U’Ma’aseh,” and a word that means “whole” or “complete.” The Shalem program combines Torah and academic studies with active participation in Israeli society, providing as complete an exciting, independent and inspirational year of growth in Israel as possible. Through study, travel and volunteer work, on an Orthodox program that emphasizes textual learning and the practice of essential Torah principles, Shalem students are given the opportunity to partake in their heritage, be confident in who they are, feel a sense of belonging to Am Yisrael and learn to give back to their communities as models of observant spiritual Jews with proper midot.
