MASA GRANTS

WUJS is a part of Masa Israel, which is the umbrella organization for all Israel programs lasting 4-9 months. Masa Israel offers grants and/or scholarships to help make your experience affordable.

North America and Europe
Intern/study abroad participants receive automatically $1,000 toward tuition, and eligible participants over the age of 21 automatically receive $2,400 – $4,500 (depending on the length and cost of your program). Masa Israel also offers eligible participants up to $3,000 in additional needs-based scholarships.

Former Soviet Union (FSU)
Masa participants from the Former Soviet Union are eligible to apply for universal grants in the amount of up to $10,000 (depending on the length of your program).

South America
Masa participants from Argentina and Venezuela are eligible to apply for universal grants in the amount of up to $9,500 (depending on the length of your program).

Please note that you will receive either the Grant OR the Needs-based scholarship but not both.

Hadassah
Hadassah offers limited need-based scholarships. Only registered WUJS participants are eligible for consideration. For ,more info please contact WUJSR@yji.org.il

Scholarships

Your Local Synagogue / your Local Jewish Federations

Synagogues often set aside funds for young adults and/or travel to Israel. For a list of synagogues in your area, visit www.JewishFederations.org.

The Amy Adina Schulman Scholarship Fund

This grant is awarded to interns who wish to work for progressive social action projects or programs. It requires a commitment and proposed plan to educate others to inspire them to do similar work. You must also send reports to the Fund during and after your internship.www.amyadinaschulmanfund.org

Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program

The Gilman Scholarship Program provides awards for U.S. undergraduate students who are receiving Federal Pell Grant funding at a two– or four–year college or university to participate in study abroad programs worldwide.www.iie.org/Gilman

Boren Scholarship

Boren Scholarships provide up to $20,000 to U.S. undergraduate students to study abroad in areas of the world and fields that are critical to U.S. security interests and underrepresented in study abroad, broadly defined. Boren Scholars and Fellows commit to working for the Federal Government for at least a year after graduation and to study a language appropriate to the region they are studying in while abroad. www.borenawards.org

Davis–Putter Scholarship Fund

The Davis–Putter Scholarship Fund provides grants to university students who are part of the progressive movement on campus or the community, actively working for peace and justice. www.davisputter.org.

The Foundation for Jewish Philanthropies

The Israel Scholarship Committee of the Foundation for Jewish Philanthropies administers a limited amount of financial assistance for Jewish high school and college students to travel and study in Israel.http://www.jewishphilanthropies.org/israel_scholarships.html

Fulbright Scholarship

The Fulbright Program is the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries. www.iie.org/Fulbright

Haas/Koshland Memorial Award

Provides up to $20,000 to support a year of study and personal development in Israel. The award is open to college students, from sophomore year through graduate school, who are from, or attend school in the San Francisco Bay Area. http://jewishfed.org/haaskoshland-memorial-award-application/

Helyn B. Reich Memorial Scholarship Fund

Reich scholarships are awarded each year to a limited number of American students who choose to study at one of several designated Israeli universities or attend post–college long–term programs. http://www.azm.org/hbr_about.shtml

Memorial Foundation for Jewish Culture

This fund is for independent scholarly, literary or art project which makes a contribution to the understanding, preservation, enhancement or transmission of Jewish culture. Please inquire regarding the deadline. www.mfjc.org

Boston

Jewish Federation of the East Bay in Northern California

Applicants who reside in Alameda, Contra Costa, Napa or Solano Counties; OR college students who currently reside in one of these counties for their undergraduate education; OR applicants whose parents’ permanent residence is in one of the above counties.

For participants of post-high school study programs which earn college credits in Israel. The Fund is for those students who show academic promise in religious studies and a need for financial assistance to study in Israel.
