Description of Position

Overall Function: Principal Objective or Purpose of the Position

A primary goal and measurement of success of the Coordinator will be the promotion of Young Judaea Israel programs to teens already engaged with Young Judaea. Given Young Judaea’s core mission of inspiring a life-long engagement with Israel and the Jewish people, and a clear understanding that a meaningful Israel Experience is an integral part of the development of the Jewish teen and young adult, the coordinator will encourage Young Judaea participants to see the Israel Experience as part of their life’s journey. The main vehicle through which this work will be done will be the Year Round Programs taking place in Young Judaea regions and National programs and gatherings by participating in the creation and implementation of programs within the Year Round Structure.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Creates opportunities for active Judaeans to learn about and register for Young Judaea Israel program using current and new programming. Will be the liaison to the local recruiter and to the enrollment center.

  • Will be the first point of contact for parents and teens engaged with Young Judaea for the Machon (high school) and Year Course (Gap Year) programs.

  • Will act as the Senior Advisor to the National Mazkirut of Young Judaea providing support and mentoring.

  • Assists with the logistics and programmatics of national conventions and Alternative Winter Break and supports other program operations as required.

  • Working with local leadership on the merchav conventions and local programs taking place over the course of the year (including logistics support when needed) and ensuring that they comply with YJ’s safety and security standards and ensure that there are opportunities to promote and discuss the Israel experience.

  • Will help youth leaders and volunteers to utilize the educational and leadership training resources provided by the Year Round Programs department and communicating the educational needs of leaders and volunteers in the field the Year Round Programs Director and the Shlichim.

  • Will be the content manager of the Young Judaea Website as it relates to year round engagement and youth programs.

  • Will coordinate logistics and programming for the Salute to Israel Parade, the Israel Dance Festival and be responsible for New York City area (including Westchester, Long Island and NJ) Young Judaea activities in coordination with the New York area Shaliach and the local fellows.

  • Will work with youth leadership for the monthly distribution of the online “Kol Hatnua” newsletter for all Young Judaea and the Ma Hamatzav newsletter

  • Individual will have a summer presence at Camp Tel Yehudah, CJ, CYJ Texas, CYJ Midwest and CYJ Sprout Lake to engage with the teens and young staff about Year Round and Israel Programs opportunities.

  • In the long term, individual will work with Year Round programs Director to build a longer term strategy to both Israel Programs recruitment among Young Judaeans using Year Round programming as a structure.

    Required Knowledge, Education or Experience

Education

Minimum BA required.

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years experience in Jewish Zionist youth movement or similar organizational work

  • Jewish/Zionist camping background

  • Experience working on programs for youth, including logistics.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Skills relating to working with children and teenagers.

  • Basic understanding of Jewish religious observance regarding Kashrut, T’fillot, Shabbat, etc.

  • Highly computer literature in technologies that will engage youth (twitter, web, social networking etc.)
